Mamta Kulkarni, the former Bollywood actress renowned for her roles in films like Karan Arjun and Baazi, has recently undergone a significant spiritual transformation. At the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, she embraced sanyas (renunciation) and was consecrated as a Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhara, a prominent religious order.
During the ceremony, Kulkarni performed the Pind Daan ritual at the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers. She was bestowed with the spiritual name “Shree Yamai Mamta Nandgiri.”
The Kinnar Akhara, established by the transgender community, operates under the Juna Akhara and is recognized for its inclusive approach to spirituality. Kulkarni’s induction into the Kinnar Akhara signifies a profound personal transformation and a commitment to spiritual life.
