Update on the National Weather Alert for June 30, 2025
While a strong monsoon system continues to batter portions of the nation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “Severe Rainfall Alert” for many states. The notice is a crucial indication for locals, authorities, and tourists to get ready for possible flash floods, landslides, waterlogging, and delays in transit, since there have been reports of continuous rains in areas like as Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Assam, and portions of the Northeast.
📍 High Alert Areas:
Maharashtra (Pune, Mumbai, Konkan)
Waterlogging has occurred in low-lying regions due to very heavy rainfall throughout the past 48 hours. Mumbai, Raigad, and Thane are under a Red Alert, according to the IMD. There has been some disruption in local train and airline operations. People are being advised by the city authorities to refrain from needless travel.
Gujarat’s coastal areas (Kutch and Saurashtra) are experiencing intense rain and wind. It has been strongly recommended that fishermen avoid going out to sea. To prepare for rescues, NDRF troops have been stationed in districts that are at risk.
Assam and West Bengal
The Brahmaputra and Ganges rivers have dangerously swelled as a result of the ongoing rainfall. Many households in Malda, Jalpaiguri, and Dhubri have been forced to relocate due to flooding. Emergency reaction is underway, and relief camps have been established.
Both Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand
During this time, landslides are especially common on hilly terrain. Travellers and pilgrims planning to follow the Char Dham Yatra routes are urged to delay their plans. There have already been reports of mudslides and road obstructions in Chamoli and Rudraprayag.
Tamil Nadu and Kerala
There is a chance of localised flooding in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Coimbatore due to the moderate to heavy rainfall that is occurring in the southern states.
♠️ IMD Advisory: Steer clear of travel during periods of high precipitation.
If it’s not absolutely required, stay indoors.
Avoid trying to cross flooded roads or overflowing rivers.
Keep an eye on local government and official IMD sources for updates.
If you live in a flood-prone location, stock up on emergency supplies, drinking water, medications, and backup power.
🛑 Transportation Impact Summary:
A number of flights and trains have been cancelled or delayed. Blockages are occurring on highways, particularly in the Northeast and Western Ghats.
Power: Due to snapped wires and fallen trees, power outages are being recorded in isolated regions of Karnataka and Odisha.
Health & Sanitation: Submerged regions now have a higher risk of waterborne illnesses. Chlorine pills and sanitisers are being distributed by health agencies.
Agriculture: Bihar and Assam’s low-lying agricultural regions are under risk of submersion for their crops. Wherever feasible, farmers are encouraged to remove surplus water.
📸 Government Response and Emergency Services:
Teams from the NDRF and SDRF are operational in more than 50 districts.
Helplines for stranded persons have been launched.
Until July 2, schools and institutions in high-alert zones were closed.
Weather maps and live tracking portals are accessible through IMD and local government websites.
