10, 2025, New Delhi — After a missile assault from India’s Sirsa Air Force Station purportedly targeted Pakistan’s Nur Khan Airbase in Islamabad, tensions between India and Pakistan have sharply increased. International concerns about a possible further escalation of the ongoing military stalemate between the two nuclear-armed neighbours have been raised by this episode.
The Missile Incident in Sirsa
India began “Operation Sindoor,” a string of missile attacks against what it claimed was terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, on May 7. Among these, the Nur Khan Airbase was hit by a missile fired from Sirsa Air Force Station, resulting in serious damage and widespread fear among the local populace. These strikes, according to India, were a response to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, which it blames on militants headquartered in Pakistan.
Pakistan has denied any role in the Pahalgam incident and denounced the missile strike as an unwarranted act of aggression. Pakistan responded by launching “Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos,” which targeted Indian military facilities, including as the airbases at Pathankot and Udhampur in Indian-administered Kashmir.
Casualties and Escalation
Both sides have suffered heavy losses as a result of the missile and drone attack exchange. India estimates 16 civilian deaths and countless injuries from Pakistani retaliatory assaults, while Pakistan reports at least 33 civilian deaths and numerous injuries from Indian strikes.
There have been indications of increased artillery exchanges and air defence deployments as both countries have mobilised more troops near the international border and along the Line of Control. Daily life has been further hampered by airspace closures and the suspension of important events, such as the Pakistan Super League and the Indian Premier League.
Global Responses
Global powers have voiced serious concerns about the growing crisis, notably the US, the G7, and surrounding nations. To stop the situation from getting worse, the UN has encouraged India and Pakistan to use as much prudence as possible and to have diplomatic talks.
Gazing Ahead
The world community is still calling for de-escalation and a resumption to diplomatic negotiations since the situation is still unstable. Both countries urgently need to address underlying tensions and stop future violence in light of the recent missile launch from Sirsa and the retaliatory actions that followed.
The story is still evolving. As further information becomes available, it will be updated.
